HOBLink JWT is the Java client from HOB that gives you access to Windows Terminal Servers (Microsoft Windows® NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition, Windows 2000 Server, Windows Server 2003). This RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) client allows global use of applications installed on the WTS, regardless of the client platform. As a Java-based software, HOBLink JWT provides a cost-effective and easy-to-use alternative for accessing centralized Windows applications from a variety of platforms, including Apple Mac and UNIX/Linux as well as Windows. It also reduces administration workload and increases user productivity by giving system administrators comprehensive control over user settings. Since the application is platform independent, on the client side only a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) is required.
A JVM can be installed on all conventional browsers. If a browser is not available you can also use a locally installed JVM. Instead of a local installation, HOBLink JWT can also be installed centrally on a WTS, where the HOBLink JWT applet provides you with a fast download of the applet to the client via a LAN, WLAN, WAN, or the Internet. A third possibility is to install HOBLink JWT on a server as a Java Web Start application.

HOBLink JWT supports every Java-enabled platform as of JDK 1.1. On UNIX platforms you should use a JVM with Java 1.2 Standard. On the client, a browser with a JVM (Java Virtual Machine) is required. We recommend a JVM with a Just-In-Time Compiler (for example Microsoft J-view). The client computer should be equipped with at least 64 MB RAM, and a processor with a Pentium capability of at least 200 MHz is also recommended. |
The platform independence enables you to use the whole range of Windows applications, regardless of the client hardware/OS (Windows, Macintosh, OS/2, UNIX, hand-held PCs, NCs, etc). The communication is based on the RDP protocol.
HOBLink JWT supports the data encryption provided by Microsoft® Windows Servers. If this symmetric encryption is not sufficient for your security requirements, you can also combine it with the HOB encryption and PKI solution HOBLink Secure. This SSL3 solution provides encryption with up to 256-bit key lengths (Strong Encryption) and also supports strong client authentication.
HOBLink JWT supports communication with all Microsoft Windows Terminal Servers. Communication with these servers is based on the Remote Desktop Protocol from Microsoft. Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition supports RDP 4, whereas Windows 2000 Server supports RDP 5 and Windows Server 2003 supports RDP 5.2.
Connections based on TCP/IP can be made in numerous ways, for example via telephone wires, WANs, LANs or WLAN. Because it can be securely used over the Internet, HOBLink JWT provides you with access to your applications from practically anywhere in the world, making it the ideal solution for organizations wanting to universally deploy Windows applications.
